A mate of mine has a massive dam on his Dads properly. It’s a great place to trap yabbies, the sweet tasting freshwater mini crayfish. They’re great to eat simply boiled and dipped in a garlic butter sauce. But I’m going to do something a bit more special with these guys. Haven’t quiet figured exactly what I’ll do with them but it will be delish no doubt. And I’m not referring to my cooking, just the taste of these alone is enough to put a smile on this country boys face.

Hey Rohan,
May I recommend yabby ravioli with a dill browned butter sauce (buerre noisette).
Made it the other day with yabbies from our little dam, eggs from our chooks, dill and salad from the patch and it was delish!
Very delicate…
Cheers
Howie
sounds pretty rad. I shall try!
yabby rolls with homemade mayooooooo
I love homem made mayo. Even better is Aioli!
This brings back memories of yabbying – I had a ball getting as a kid, but then I was the one given the job to strip the ‘mustard’ out of them…that was the term my Aunty used for taking out the intestinal tract. Anyway I’m sorry to say that the job made me feel ill and I couldn’t bring myself to eat anything.
That was then, and this is now! They look really tasty. Enjoy!!
Hi Rohan,
I only recently discovered your website which I have really enjoyed reading over past week. My six year old son is very keen for me to take him yabbying this weekend.
I have a small online business selling beautiful heavy copper pans with cast iron handles. They are made in Belgium which is where my partner comes from. If you are ever interested I’d be delighted to look after you.
Look forward to your next blog.
Have a good weekend and happy cooking.
David
Thanks for popping in David. Good luck with the tabbies!!!
Those copper pots look amazing….but well out of my price range!
Yabbies simple and pure. Boil them, dip in a mild chilli sauce, gobble them up, washed down with a very cold beer. Seventh heaven. Brings back memories of netting on the Murray around Tooleybuc, NSW many, many moons ago. Yum
Yeah I bet you had a big feed back in those days!
Bagged some beautiful yabbies and Marron last year on Kangaroo Island. Turns out I was the only one of our group that liked them. Mayo, marron and cold beer. Beautiful.
What a score Phill!!!! Did you feast like a king??
I did mate, I did…
And drank like a lord
Why am I not surprised. ;-)
