garden heaven

Apart from the heat of the Australian summer, I love this time of year as my yard comes alive. All the work and effort nurturing plants from seed, finding the right spot for them in the soil and then caring for them as they get their little roots settled. They almost become a second family of adopted children, is that too much, some might say so. When they mature they offer up the stunning produce as a thank you for your time end effort. Normally this would start in January but this season has been typically odd. A lot wetter and cooler, but the harvest season approaches. Each night after work on a hot day I patiently wait for the sun to dip low enough for me to go water the garden safe from the hot sun. This is when I plug into the grid that is nature. I can sit somewhere in the garden just admiring the plants. Maybe I pick a ripe strawberry, sweetness bursts in my mouth. Maybe I pluck a few red cherry tomatoes, explosions of warm tomatoes ensue. Maybe I might grab something for dinner, a yellow Zucchini grilled on the BBQ along with a super onion, fresh Cos lettuce all ending up in a great home made burger. Simple stuff to grow, giving the gardener a lot of joy. It tastes even better not only because it's 'organic' but because you grew it.
